What is injection therapy?

There are two types of injection therapies we perform at Physio Connect that have proven effective for various pain conditions. Autologous Conditioned Serum (ACS) for Osteoarthritis and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for ligaments and tendons. The injection process is quick and easy in the clinic, and you can go home shortly after. Although it may be necessary to rest the joint for a few days after the injection, you will be able to carry out all your normal daily activities. Let’s take a look at how each of these therapies work.

Autologous Conditioned Serum

How common is it?

We are one of only two clinics in New Zealand that offer this unique solution. Our highly trained orthopaedic surgeon is certified in injection therapy and can advise if ACS can help you. Contact us today to discuss if ACS is right for you.

How does it work?

ACS is an innovative way to use the body’s “good” proteins already in the blood to block the function of the “bad” proteins found in arthritic joints, which can cause pain, inflammation and further arthritis degradation. This means that joint pain and stiffness are reduced, the joint function is improved, and you can restart your favourite activities. Even better, it is backed by years of clinical trials and uses the biological ingredients you already have. After extracting the blood components we need, we will give a series of injections to the painful joints under local anaesthesia.

How long until I feel a result?

Approximately 7 days after the first injection you should notice a significant difference in the degree of pain and stiffness.

Platelet Rich Plasma

How common is it?

We are one of only a few clinics in New Zealand that offer this unique solution. Our highly-skilled Podiatrist is certified in injection therapies and will be able to advise if PRP is suitable for you. Contact us today to find out if PRP can help you.

How does it work?

An effective way to accelerate the healing and recovery of both chronic and acute soft tissue injuries. It uses biological components of the body’s plasma, derived from blood, and nothing chemical or artificial, to provide a natural alternative to drugs created by pharmaceutical companies. PRP is clinically proven and effective in the treatment of conditions including chronic tendinopathy, ligament injuries and soft tissue injuries. It can also aid in postoperative recovery after a tendon or soft tissue repair. This is done under local anaesthesia to minimize discomfort.

How long until I feel a result?

Approximately ??? after the first injection you should notice a significant improvement
