Many people come to our North Shore physio clinics with a very common complaint. A sore back. A lot of our patients describe that pain as some of the worst they’ve ever experienced in their lives, so we’re very conscious about delivering as much relief as we can, and as quickly as we can. The sad thing is, most of the back issues we deal with are preventable. Very preventable!
For example, it could be down to using the wrong technique and not bending knees when lifting heavy objects. It might be a sports injury that’s just occurred or one that flares up years after you retired. Or, quite commonly, it is the result of years and years of poor posture. As a nation of sitters, we rank very low on the international ladder of correct posture! Whatever it is, when we do find the root cause, we work with the patient to reduce the severity and recurrence of back pain. But in some people, that pain just happens, and that might be because it is hereditary.
There is a growing pool of scientific research that suggests genetics might play a major role in causing chronic back pain. It is thought the condition might run in the family; some scientists even believe that hereditary factors are most often connected to the development of lumbar degenerative disc disease, which is a condition usually associated with the normal wear and tear of the spine.
So, if you take every precaution when lifting heavy objects, have perfect posture, exercise regularly, keep yourself fit and trim, yet still suffer from back issues, then it might not be your fault. Genes could be to blame instead but that doesn’t mean you just have to grin and bear it. Even if your bad back is hereditary, modern physiotherapy treatments can help. At Physio Connect, we’ve mastered a wide range of traditional and innovative techniques that can dramatically relieve back pain, so don’t live with it a second longer than you have to ( while cursing your bad back genes at the same time.)
Whether it’s preventable or not, back issues happen to a lot of us, and we’re here to help you overcome them. If you’re looking for a physio clinic on the North Shore for back pain, we have a branch near you. Click here to find the one that is most conveniently located for you.
