As with all consultation service in Physio Connect, seeing an orthopaedic surgeon is Free under ACC. Physio Connect staff will complete all the necessary paperwork to allow you to receive funding for services where you are entitled.

What is an orthopaedic surgeon?

An orthopaedic surgeon is a doctor that has undergone extensive training to become a fully-fledged consultant. During this training, orthopaedic surgeons complete specialist training (fellowships), where they hone their skills to complete specific surgical procedures. The surgeons that Physio Connect has developed relations with have specialized specifically in surgeries that are required following injuries to muscles, bones, joints and ligaments. Ensuring you are put in front of the right person to help you whether that be through surgery or non-surgical specialist opinion.

How do I see an orthopaedic surgeon AT Physio Connect?

To ensure that your referral to the specialist/surgeon is appropriate, Physio Connect has developed an internal referral process where all patients that are requesting specialist review have a referral from one of our expert front line rehabilitative staff. From your thorough assessment, if warranted, your provider will send a referral to our internal specialists and your appointment will be booked in the next available time slot for specialist review.

What a specialist/surgeon requires to conduct an assessment?

Our internal specialists require information about you and your injury to ensure that your time is utilized effectively and to ensure that they are able to complete their job properly. This includes

  • Your medical history
  • Any imaging related to the condition
  • Past medical notes
  • A referral letter

If you are a Physio Connect patient, we will already have all of this information and will be able to share this with your consulting specialist/orthopaedic surgeon on your behalf where appropriate.
